When vampires and angels join forces against humanity nothing matters but survival.
The final stand on ancient ground, when blood saturates desert sand and the only sounds are the walls falling and mothers wailing with their children... is this the end?
We never thought it was possible, yet here it faces us and there's no way out.
The Eye of Ra is all that's left between us and obliteration - goddess save us!
This is what Author Bonita Franks says about Elizabeth Rose...
Janus is a good name for an author who looks both ways one set of eyes to the real, the tangible--the everyday sounds of conversation, the drool of camels and the authentic cadences of Syrian street talk; the other looks to the surreal--to the apocalyptic visions of dizzying magic and impossible dreams. “Their precious life forces slowly dripped like a shower of crimson teardrops into the receptacle below . . . . the odor of rotting flesh hung like a blanket in the stagnant air . . . .”
I found myself almost mesmerized looking at a rich tapestry of magical people and places, alongside the actual sights and sounds of Syria. Janus’ prose catches the reader up in her elaborate, exotic detail. We see the tents, the musicians, the dances “The sea of flames sent waves of embers streaming out behind her like tiny fairies . . . .” And just when we think the magic will permeate us completely, there comes the sound of SUV’s and pickups!
Elizabeth Rose is a masterful juxtaposition of real and surreal. I almost want to find music that some master could compose to play while I read. I imagine the music accompanied by a hooded cobra, sinuous and hypnotic, winding tales as old as the universe. Great job, Janus Gangi Author
Elizabeth Rose Providence Series edition by Janus Gangi Paranormal Romance eBooks
I've had this on my list of must-reads for some while now, but that mental list gets lost when you look at your Kindle library. I'm sorry it took me so long, but I'm glad I finally got to it...because, as short stories go, this is a humdinger. It's almost like to reading a full-length novel there is so much in such a short space! That, by the way, isn't a bad thing at all, because the richness of the detail, culture and legends leaps off the page at you and draws you in.
I like how Janus Gangi draws two separate times and tales together, using the method of bards of old, and the telling is vivid and intense. Read this slowly to savour the detail, and if you get a bit lost, no worries, go back a bit to re-savour it! Elisabeth Rose is an excellent starter, I believe, to the main course - the Stolen Moments novels (which I can't wait to sink my teeth into!).
Even now, hours after finishing it, I can see the Taurus Mountains, smell the devastation of Jericho...and the little twist in the tale at the very end will stay with me for a long time.

Elizabeth Rose Providence Series edition by Janus Gangi Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
My first book by Janus Gangi but not the last. Elizabeth Rose was not what I expected. Angels and vampyres often feature in the books I've been reading lately. Elizabeth Rose and Vincent (AKA Sehkmet and Tias) are sent to Syria to make sure that some newfound artifacts don't "change the history of mankind" and "cause an international incident".
Janus' description of Syria conjures up a rich and mysterious image. I could almost smell the spices in the food and feel the warm of the sand. I felt as if I too was sitting around a fire listening to Elizabeth and Vincent tell their story of an ancient battle.
My biggest complaint with Elizabeth Rose is that it was too short. I want to know more about Sehkmet and Tias. The story behind their marriage *has* to be interesting.
I must say that the story is quite interesting, and I was attracted to the descriptions of Syria -- geographical and cultural.
There is the need of prompt editing for punctuation, especially the use of commas, semi-colons and "--". I also found quite a few glitches in verb tenses.
I do not read Arabic, but I do read French. It is my opinion that if a foreign language is included this should be with done correctly, especially if a leading vampire is speaking -- vampire leaders are supposed to be perfect.
Once the above is corrected I am sure that I could enjoy the story in all its worth.
BTW, the story is told in just the right "length." Not too short... Not too long...
I was fascinated by this brief novella in which the world of Providence and its archetypes are introduced to the reader in a compelling narrative. Elizabeth Rose is an interesting woman. A skillful story teller and accurate historian of the Providence world. A world that when it interacts with ordinary reality gives birth to the familiar legends and myths common throughout our history and spread throughout the world. The story does a remarkable job of connecting modern themes like Vampires and Werewolves to epic tales about angels, sorcerers, and witches. If this is, as I hope, an opening stanza to an epic series based on these creatures and the legends around them throughout history it promises to be a great ride for years to follow.
A well told story with deep connections to common lore, and a descriptive original style combine to make this little book a real treasure! The marvelous settings in Syrian desert and the references to OT events are well researched and brought to life for the reader vividly.
This is the first book I have ever read from Janus Gangi, and to be honest it blew me away. Never really thought a book that was only 65 pages long could have such a huge impact on how I view a book and you can tell, because it says Providence Series, that this is only the beginning of an awesome series. What a wonderful table-setter book for the remainder of the series. I am thoroughly excited to read what happens next in this series.
Elizabeth Rose tells the story of vampyres and vampires, good and bad angels and much, much more. Towns, needed to protect themselves from unconquerable evils. But the thing that really held my interest throughout was the way she described the setting and intertwined it with actual storyline. I felt like I was among the crowd Elizabeth Rose tells the story to. I have never been to the Middle East before, but after reading it, I feel not only as if I have, but that she has lived most of her life in that region of the world.
I excitedly await for the next great book in the series by Janus Gangi.
I think the majority of other reviewers have done a fantastic job of telling readers why they should buy/read this book, so I'll try not to be repetitious. It is an awesome story of various mythological beings and human characters--good, bad, and inbetween--at war, in peace, and in alliance. From the first sentence to the last, the dialogue and narrative flow in such a manner as to prevent the reader from putting it aside unless there is an emergency. I so enjoyed learning about other cultures and places. Janus handled the foreign languages with great skill, as they were never intrusive and were easily understood. The few gliches (some reviewers mentioned) were too sparse and minor to distract from continuing as quickly as possible to learn what happens next. I was enlightened and entertained during the entire story (and "story within a story"). This is my first book to read by this author, but I really love her style and imagination. She made magic come alive with her knowledge and talent. Thanks, Janus, for introducing me to a world of memorable fantasy.
