Milkshakes and Murder #3 - They're at it again! Another well written, fun filled story with our favorite ladies and a well thought out plot that keeps the reader immersed in the intrigue, suspense and now, a touch of romance. The characters are interesting and the dialog real. Some of the characters are developing into their full potential and it's fun to watch the growth. There's new characters that will be seen more in future books. Ms. Murphy doesn't disappoint the reader with her writing and sense of humor.Mango Cake and Murder - #1- Heartwarming and funny. I love the relationship between the mother and daughter; they reminded me of other m/d relationships like Joy Luck Club, etc. The mother is wise, caring, sensible, a matchmaker (her daughter's) and is loved by all. The daughter realizes how great and loved her mother is and there's the extended family, too. A love interest and a cat with personality. Can't forget the murder and the characters involved with that family. A funny, quickly read suspense.
Apple Pies and Alibis - #2 - Another funny book. A well written comedy with a wonderful cast of characters supporting Mom and Christy as they solve another mysterious death, find a sandwich thief and the employee selling company secrets; while they successfully caterer parties and luncheons. When you finish the book, you're sad, but still happy from reading, that the book is finished and you don't have Milkshakes and Murder on hand.
Mocha and Murder #4 - This is a pretty good story! Well written, funny, intriguing and a different path followed than in previous books. Add a PASSEL of new characters, interesting and entertaining, along with a plot that keeps the reader interested. The reader isn't disappointed with the author's writing style and her sense of humor.
The Secret Truth of Time - I've read Mango Cake and Murder, and Apple Pies and Alibis, and was surprised at the difference between those books and The Secret Truth of Time. Totally and completely apples and oranges. This well written paranormal book is fast paced and difficult to put down. I read it in one sitting. The characters are interesting and the plot is intriguing. The Time Travel alone is a major character! Ms. Murphy is one heck of a storyteller. Don't expect humor and lightheartedness in this story. It is spellbinding!

The third book In this series is just as spicy as the others, but adds to the addiction. I keep telling myself the series is pretty frothy, but so much fun. And the mother-daughter interaction makes me smile! Perfect for lighting up a gloomy day!
These are fun quick reads. I have two issues, one is the spelling errors, they are numerous, especially in this book. I'm really not a nazi about this kind of stuff usually, but there were just soooo many. Maybe the author can send out ARC's to help with the proof reading?
The second, is the author focusing so much on the food Christy puts in her mouth and constantly talking about how overweight or out of shape she is. Enough, we get it, Christy likes to eat and doesn't like to exercise. Christy's food habits are starting to define her. I assume the author wants to make a point that chubby girls are people too, but I don't need to have it constantly reinforced that Christy makes bad food choices, who doesn't?!?!
All in all though, I think these books are fun. The stories are good, maybe a little too short. But I've read all of them so far and will continue.
Christy and her Mom are back again in the middle of another murder mystery. Fletcher Canyon is a small close knit town where the people know each other and don't mind sharing the gossip. Christy and her mother have lots of interesting friends and meet a new one called Dar-Dar who is a real character. Christy's almost ex-husband is pushing her to sign divorce papers while she and her mother are doing some sleuthing to solve a murder. Could Christy's life get more complicated? This is a real page-turner that will keep you reading .
I received a copy for review but this is my honest opinion.
This is a good, quick read. When Jo enters the contest for best milkshake in town, did her milkshake kill the judge? When he got sick and fell, did the fall kill him? Jo and Christy intend to find out. All the rumors of bad food and milkshakes cause Wenling's restaurant to be closed and Jo's and Christy's catering business is going out of business. Another plus for Christy is the handsome detective in charge of the case. She has a mega crush on him. How does he feel about her, an insecure plus size soon to be divorcee?
I really enjoy the Mom and Christy series! Although I want to call it the Christy and Mom series!
After each book you learn just a little bit more about everybody in the series so it never gets boring. I love how Ms Murphy has given us just a little in each book so we don’t get overwhelmed.
The books show how close Christy is with her Mom and thats kind of sweet. All in all the books stay interesting and fresh. I highly recommend them.
This book gives a nice little taste of Southern California mixed with an unexpected death. I enjoyed the relationships had by the narrator and her mother, as well as her mother's relationship with her best friend. And then there's the cute detective, a good guy who is interested in the narrator and willing to help her mother find the real killer of the cooking contest judge and eliminate herself (Mom) as the main suspect.
What a great series! I love the ways in which Christy's confidence has grown through the first two books! From a not so confident catering assistant with her Mom to a confident crime solver - along with Jo ( Mom), Wenling, the cat Moriarty and a town full of characters!
Christy and Mom are entered into a "Best of..." contest in their small California town. Unfortunately, one of the judges collapses right after sampling Mom's new milkshake and the case is on!
Christy and Jo make a hilarious team and the series is filled with mystery, a budding romance, family, friends and food!
You can read each one as a stand-alone, but shy miss any of the adventures! I'm waiting for the next book in the series!
